últimos 30 años se han realizado grandes avances en la comprensión del proceso
de aprendizaje de las ciencias experimentales y de la matemática, que han
servido de fundamento al desarrollado de estrategias de enseñanza que han
demostrado ser muy exitosas tanto en el nivel básico universitario como también
en la enseñanza secundaria. Sin embargo los resultados de relevamientos
internacionales en estudiantes secundarios, como PISA y TIMMS, muestran que
Argentina está al final de los países participantes en esos estudios, a pesar de
la descollante tradición en ciencias que tiene nuestro país.

Diagnóstico en los Cursos Introductorios de Ciencias en <st1:PersonName

Universidad</st1:PersonName>"</I></B></SPAN> ha relevado el conocimiento de
algunos conceptos básicos de física y matemática en alumnos ingresantes en cinco
universidades de Latinoamérica y España es muy pobre, compatible con la falta
absoluta de instrucción. En la misma línea un reciente estudio sobre el
conocimiento matemático de los ingresantes a <st1:PersonName w:st="on"
ProductID="la Facultad">la Facultad</st1:PersonName> de Cs. Físico-Matemáticas y
Naturales de <st1:PersonName w:st="on" ProductID="la UNSL">la
UNSL</st1:PersonName> muestra las enormes carencias que tienen en temas de
matemática del antiguo EGB3 estos ingresantes a carreras de ciencias e
ingeniería. Algunas consecuencias de esta deficitaria situación son las
alarmantes tasas de deserción y fracaso estudiantil, que comprometen seriamente
el desarrollo tecnológico de la sociedad. Como alternativa se muestran algunos
resultados de aplicación de metodologías de aprendizaje activo en distintos
cursos y escuelas de <st1:PersonName w:st="on" ProductID="la Provincia">la
Provincia</st1:PersonName> de San Luis<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

últimos años hemos implementado la metodología de Tutoriales en Física
Introductoria en los cursos de física para estudiantes de ingeniería en el
Tecnológico de Monterrey. Esta metodología, basada principalmente en actividades
colaborativas de lápiz y papel, involucra al estudiante en la construcción
efectiva de conceptos. Su implementación requiere de la capacitación de
instructores y profesores, quienes interactúan socraticamente con los grupos de
estudiantes en el aula para facilitar esta construcción de conceptos. Si bien
esta metodología nos ha permitido incrementar razonablemente el aprendizaje de
nuestros estudiantes e incluir nuevas habilidades de colaboración en la
formación de futuros ingenieros, los resultados se han estancado, por lo que
estamos explorando nuevas metodologías de instrucción, en particular la
instrucción por modelación.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></SPAN></P><FONT

instrucción convencionales, acercando al estudiante a la física misma, tal como
es desarrollada por los investigadores. En esta charla se describirá esta
metodología, su implementación en nuestra institución y los primeros resultados
de su efectividad en una investigación exploratoria.</FONT></SPAN><SPAN

face=Arial>El Dr. Alarcón es profesor de Física del Instituto Tecnológico de
Monterrey, del cual ha sido Director de <st1:PersonName w:st="on"
ProductID="la Carrera">la Carrera</st1:PersonName> de Ingeniería Física.
Desarrolla sus actividades en las áreas de Física-Matemática y Física Educativa.
En esta última tiene contribuciones en revistas y congresos nacionales e
internacionales, sobre todo en la formación de profesores en las nuevas
metodologías de enseñanza de la física. Es co-responsable de la implementación
en cursos muy numerosos de Tutoriales para física Introductoria, una de las
estrategias más exitosas de enseñanza de la física de los últimos 15
